Twisties and Peaks: Sport Touring Through the Heart of Colorado

Updated: 6 days ago

Get ready for an unforgettable ride! We’ll kick off our Colorado Sport Touring Adventure in Raton, New Mexico on Saturday, July 26th. From this gateway to the Rockies, we’ll carve our way through some of the most scenic and thrilling roads the region has to offer. The journey truly begins on Sunday, July 27th, as we roll out from Raton and head toward the stunning mountain town of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Along the way, we’ll ride the legendary Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, a breathtaking loop through Northern New Mexico that winds through Taos, Red River, and Eagle Nest. This route blends vibrant culture, alpine vistas, and perfect pavement—setting the tone for the adventure ahead. Whether it's your first time on these roads or a favorite return, the ride promises nothing short of magic.

On Monday, July 28th, we’ll leave the relaxing hot springs of Pagosa behind and head deep into Colorado’s high country. Our route takes us over the spectacular Slumgullion Pass, one of the most dramatic and lesser-known mountain passes in the state, offering epic switchbacks and incredible alpine views. From there, we’ll cruise through the charming mountain town of Crested Butte before wrapping up the day in Gunnison, Colorado, where we’ll rest up and swap stories from another unforgettable day on the road.

Tuesday, July 29th brings us to the heart of Colorado’s high-altitude thrill ride. We’ll conquer two of the state’s most iconic routes—Cottonwood Pass and the legendary Independence Pass. These roads are what sport touring dreams are made of: smooth pavement, endless curves, and panoramic mountain views that stretch for miles. After a full day of twisties and scenic wonder, we’ll roll into Glenwood Springs to relax and recharge—maybe even soak in the famous hot springs before calling it a night.

Wednesday, July 30th is all about majestic views and unforgettable riding as we make our way to Rocky Mountain National Park. We’ll start the day riding north through the laid-back charm of Steamboat Springs, then carve our way across some of Colorado’s most scenic backroads. The highlight of the day? Riding Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved road in North America, as it winds through the heart of the national park. We’ll end the day in Estes Park, surrounded by rugged peaks and cool mountain air—the perfect setting to reflect on an epic day in the Rockies.

Thursday, July 31st takes our adventure to new heights—literally—as we set our sights on the legendary Pikes Peak. Known as “America’s Mountain,” this iconic climb offers 19 miles of twisting pavement leading up to 14,115 feet, with jaw-dropping views at every turn. After conquering the summit and soaking in the scenery, we’ll descend into the vibrant town of Manitou Springs, where eclectic charm, good food, and well-earned rest await. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a day filled with adrenaline and altitude.

Friday, August 1st marks the final leg of our incredible Colorado tour as we make our way back to the Holiday Inn in Raton, New Mexico. It’s a day to enjoy the ride, reflect on the unforgettable miles we've shared, and take in the last sweeping views of the mountains we've come to love over the past week. While the adventure may be coming to an end, the friendships, stories, and memories made on this journey will stay with us long after we’ve rolled back into our garages.

The total cost for this unforgettable adventure is $880, which covers all hotel accommodations for the duration of the trip. I’ve already secured the reservations to ensure we have great places to stay each night. If you’ve signed up but find you’re unable to join us, please let me know as soon as possible so I can cancel any unneeded rooms. We're looking forward to an epic week of riding, and I can’t wait to hit the road with all of you! Routes are attached.
